Turquoise is December Birthstone
Everybody who was born in December can enjoy Turquoise as their birth gemstone. Those of you who celebrate 5th or 11th years of marriage take a look at Turquoise jewelry too.
The name of this gemstone comes from a French word which means stone of Turkey. While in fact those specific stones actually originated in Persia (Iran). However, the USA Southwest is now the world leader in its production.
Guess what color is this gemstone? Of course, it is turquoise. But this color actually varies from very green blue to light sky blue shades. In general the bluer the blue, the more highly valued it is. However I prefer Turquoise with veins or spider’s webs, which set off the color.
During the 16th century Turquoise was used as a currency by the South Indians. It was prized as much as gold. It was even called “the stone of wealth”. It was believed that Turquoise jewelry is able to promote wealth, attract luck and bring happiness. If you want to enhance wisdom, kindness and understanding you should choose Turquoise jewelry, since it promotes mental and spiritual clarity. If you want your friend to remember you forever give him a Turquoise ring as forget-me-not gift.
For those of you who make investments in gemstones, it is a good idea to invest in high quality Turquoise jewelry, as in coming years it will be appreciated asset much like diamonds or other valuable gems, due to dwindling global reserves of Turquoise and growing market demand for it.
Turquoise was appreciated by the royalty from beginning of civilization. Picture shows the iconic gold burial mask of Tutankhamun (ancient Egypt), inlaid with turquoise, lapis lazuli, carnelian and colored glass.
