Topaz is November Birthstone

a157.jpgIf you were born in November Topaz is the traditional choice of birthday gemstone. Should you closely follow zodiac signs, it is the birthstone for Sagittarius (born on November 21st – December 21st). Moreover, Blue Topaz is the accepted anniversary gemstone for the 4th year and Imperial Topaz for the 23rd year of marriage. So there is quite a number of events when you can consider buying Topaz jewelry.

The name of this gemstone is believed to have derived from Sanskrit tapas meaning fire. May be that is why most people think of Topaz as a transparent golden yellow gemstone (the same as I thought before)?  But now I know better. It can be in blue, green, pink, orange, brown colors or even colorless! It is interesting to know that the orange-red Topaz is called Imperial Topaz after the Russian Czars of the 1800 and it’s the rarest.
